Formerly known as Beaver Ridge, Karns was historically an agricultural area. The name was eventually changed to Karns to honor the community’s first Superintendent of Public Instruction, Thomas Conner Karns.
Today, Karns has grown into a moderately sized community of about 19,000 residents. If you want a small little town that’s conveniently close to the city, this is your pick. It has easy access to Pellissippi Community College and boasts its own city area school district. Karns is ideally located between Oak Ridge and Downtown Knoxville, so you’ll always have easy access to the city.
It’s also extremely close to Farragut and Hardin Valley, which offer a fantastic selection of retail, dining, and recreational activities. However, with all Karns has to offer, you won't have to leave the comfort of home. Karns provides plenty of local shopping and restaurants and has a good mixture of houses and land.
